Glen Fred Mayer, 83, of Platteville passed away on June 21, 2024 at University Hospital in Aurora. He was born September 23, 1940 in Greeley to Fred and Ima Nadine (Payne) Mayer and grew up in Platteville. Glen was a 1958 graduate of Platteville High School and went on to study engineering at the School of Mines for a year and a half before returning to the farm where he worked alongside his father and brother, Randy.
On November 12, 1961, he married Karen Fern Platt at the First Baptist Church in Longmont, celebrating 62 years of marriage. Glen loved being on the farm, fabricating and building their own equipment, working on collector and antique vehicles, tending his beautiful lawn and garden, gambling trips to Blackhawk, but most enjoyed time with his family. He served on the Platteville Potato Association board, was a member of the Flintstones Car Club and was a High Ten sugar beet grower for many years, in addition to growing potatoes, corn and pinto beans.
Thankful to have shared his life are his wife, Karen, their children; Annette (Todd) Sage and Craig (Brandi) Mayer, six grandchildren; Nicole Shoup, Tegan Wilson, TJ Sage, Tanner Sage, Trevor Sage and Jordan Stott, seven great-grandchildren; Isaac and Amy Shoup, Jaxon Wilson, Alianna Sage, Charlotte, Brady and Saorise, his sister, Shirley Kauffman and brother, Randy (Nancy) Mayer.
