A 4-year-old girl has been left severely burned after a garden heater exploded and turned her into a “ball of flames”. Tay Boddington was sitting next to the heater, run by bioethanol, at a family gathering when it unexpectedly exploded after being lit, setting her on fire . The youngster was rushed to hospital where she has undergone multiple skin grafts and faces further surgeries.

Tay, who also suffered significant nerve damage, had to have her hair shaved off to allow doctors to move the skin from her scalp to other parts of her body. Her parents, Charlotte Woodman and Alan Boddington are now warning the nation ahead of warmer weather and barbecue season, as they recalled the moment their daughter became a "ball of flames'' when the heater exploded. Charlotte, 36, who runs School House Daycare in Guilsborough, Northamptonshire, tried to "pat her down" before Alan, 56, rushed Tay to the bath and ran her body under cold water.
