Getaway host David Genat reveals what it's like onboard a luxury Caribbean cruise

I'm going to start this with an apology - I am so sorry to tell you that I have just been on one of the best trips of my life... travelling through the Caribbean on a luxury super yacht!This is the type of holiday that dreams are made of.This dream I took was aboard Emerald Sakara, my luxury home away from home for 15 days. The Emerald Cruises journey took me through some of the Caribbean's ultimate hotspots - and with over 7000 islands, there were lots to choose from.Watch the videos above.READ MORE: London in 48 hours: From dive bars to Soho decadenceThe first stop was Martinique, a little French territory mixed with a bit of Africa, India and even China. We pulled up at St Pierre, which was almost wiped off the map in the early 1900s when a volcano erupted, but now it's home to some beautiful historical sites.Our next destination was Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and its smallest inhabited island of Mayreau. With a beautiful hilltop church and a secluded beach, there's nothing flashy about this island but it was the perfect spot to spend an afternoon.Bequia is another of the Grenadines but it's much larger than Mayreau, with more to do. A must-do is a visit to Princess Margaret Beach and Jack's Beach Bar before taking the coast-hugging wooden walkway back to the port.Our final stop in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was the Tobago Cays, an archipelago of uninhabited islands in the south.We stopped at the largest of the cays, Petit Bateau, for an amazing beach BBQ prepared by local Big Mama. Lobster was on the menu, which I love, so I was more than happy to settle in for a relaxing afternoon. The Emerald Cruises team brought several of the marina deck toys ashore, including the trampoline and snorkel kits, so we guests could enjoy the crystal clear waters.From one saint to the next - Saint Lucia was our next stop, a volcanic island paradise. Saint Lucia is best known for its twin peaks, called pitons. These lava domes were once one huge mountain before a volcanic eruption separated them.There were a couple of other highlights for me, though. The first one was Project Chocolat - a cocoa pod to chocolate bar experience where I got to make my own choccy bar from scratch. Just call me Willy Wonka!!I also visited Sulphur Springs Park, the only drive-in volcano on the planet, where I got to lather myself in volcanic mud. When the weather plays nice (and come on, it's the Caribbean so it's usually playing pretty nice!) the Emerald Sakara marina deck is open! This is the perfect place to swim straight off the back of the ship, or grab a paddleboard, kayak or seabob. We pulled up to Terre de Haut, a sweet little slice of France, where I learnt about Creole culture and some of its history at the 19th century fort. The Caribbean is such a melting pot of cultures, languages, people and food - with a relaxed vibe and spectacular scenery. Time for a bit of adrenaline and I was ready. Heading north to Antigua and Barbuda we hopped off at St Johns, the capital city, and headed inland where 13 high adventure ziplines had my name all over them. Antigua Rainforest Ziplines is possibly one of the most speccy ziplines on the planet - the scenery is off the hook and the crew were so chilled - it was a great day.Though the highlights off-ship are too many to count, it's always a treat to get back to the luxury of Emerald Sakara after a busy day. The food on board is exquisite with full a-la-carte dining each night in the main restaurant, La Cucina.The spa on deck 7 is one of my favourite spots on board but my suite is pretty sweet too. Loads of room to spread out and the bed is so comfy.From Antigua and Barbuda we headed west to St Kitts & Nevis, a pair of tropical islands known for their lush landscapes, natural beauty and historical sites. We visited Brimstone Hill, one of the most impressive landmarks in the Caribbean, with its massive hilltop compounds of citadels, barracks and ramparts.READ MORE: Here's how to figure out the cheapest time to travel and the best time to book your next holidayI also joined a cooking class where I learnt to make jerk pork, a local steamed fish and coconut bread and butter pudding, honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten. From here it was straight into lifestyles of the rich and famous territory as we cruised to St Barts. Even the name sounds fancy and trust me, it was spectacularly beautiful. I went snorkelling with turtles, visited a beach club, hit the designer stores and drank French champagne all before heading back to the uber-cool Emerald Sakara, which of course fit in perfectly at St Barts.This really was the trip of a lifetime and if you get the chance, please, please take it.
