If your cherished Monstera is falling victim to ravenous insects, there's a simple homemade remedy you might want to consider. Indoor plants not only enhance the aesthetics of a home but can also contribute to better air quality, absorb excess moisture, and reduce dust levels. Yet, these green beauties may also become a target for various pests eager to feast on their foliage and fly around your living space.
However, rather than resorting to costly and chemical-laden pest repellents, Brits are singing the praises of a natural three-ingredient spray that's just as effective. A viral TikTok user from the account Creative Explained - who has gained over six million followers thanks to his useful tips - shared his method for creating a reliable insect deterrent. "Just grab a red onion, roughly dice it up, put it in some kind of container or bowl," he instructs.
"Then grab two garlic cloves, dice them up and add them in. Add one teaspoon of cayenne pepper, fill it up with water, stick it in the fridge and let it sit there for about 12 hours." Afterwards, he strains the concoction and pours it into a spray bottle.
He asserts that this 'non-toxic' mixture will protect your houseplants from aphids, slugs, spider mites, and other pests. "Spray directly on the leaves of your plants and watch the magic," he suggested. You can find all three ingredients at your local supermarket or green grocers.
Currently, Morrisons offers a jar of cayenne pepper for £1, garlic in a four-pack for 99p,.
