More than 40 students from the all-girl Sakai Liberal High School in Osaka, Japan, capped a four-day Guam excursion for students and faculty with a nearly hourlong performance of singing and dancing at the Micronesia Mall Center Court on Saturday. A drum set, guitar, bass guitar, a keyboard and microphones for vocalists were set up as musicians rotated on and off the stage to perform their numbers. An area in front of the stage was dedicated to the dance routines.
Kanae Shigeyama, principal of the school, has brought students from the high school more than 10 times. “Our senior and junior high school students study music and dancing, and we would like to share that with the people of Guam,” she said. “The girls enjoy Guam.
They love the beach and shopping.” Yasuo Aida, the operation manager for Lam Lam Tours, assisted the students and teachers from the school with activities around the island. “The group did a lot of sightseeing and some shopping, but there was also a significant visit to the University of Guam, where they were able to see the campus and inquire about student programs there,” said Aida.
“They had a full schedule. After the performance here at the mall, they will go directly to the airport for the flight back to Japan,” he said. A small group of students were interviewed through an interpreter.
