A water park once located on the Essex border is still fondly remembered by locals, despite it having been gone for 30 years. Lending its space to now, the Larkswood Leisure Park in Chingford, Fantaseas - was an American styled water attraction that boasted water slides, a lazy river and a wave pool. It made its debut in August 1990, right at the onset of summer holidays and was considered to be a slightly scaled down version of the expansive Dartford-based Fantaseas Park which overlooked the M25.

Photographs capturing the construction phase exhibit oversized water slides curving their way around the exterior of the building. In fact, it promised a slice of tropical paradise for local families. Even today, these people harbour joyful memories of spending time there.

It was the best job ever.", reports MyLondon .

Another comment from a delighted swimmer stated: "Why did they close this down? Unforgettable childhood memories! ". Speculations are rife about the reasons behind the closure of the park. One theory revolves around miscreants allegedly piercing razor blades into the tubes with chewing gum.
