T he red, white, and blue will be on full display next Thursday as Nevada City hosts the annual Fourth of July Parade & Independence Day Celebration. It is a long-held tradition that Nevada City hosts the parade on even years, while Grass Valley holds the honor on the odd. The parade will kick off at 11:00 a.

m. and will travel down Broad Street to Union. While spectators find their perfect seats on the sidewalk they can enjoy the sounds of the Nevada County Concert Band, who will be set up on the steps of the old Alpha building at the foot of Broad Street and begin at 10:00 a.



m. This year, a small street fair will also take place before the route begins. This year’s Grand Marshall will be local entertainer and chanteuse Lorraine Gervais, who has become well known throughout the community for her cabaret-style tunes and frequent appearances in local venues.

“We have over 50 parade entries, I think we’re up to 52,” said Carol O’Mahoney, Office Manager for the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce. “It’s going to be a fun, patriotic event and we are thrilled it is in Nevada City this year. It looks like the weather will be glorious and hopefully we will get a little relief from the heat.

” O’Mahoney added that Friar Tuck’s is the premiere sponsor of the parade, which will feature a wide array of floats from the Corvette Club, to dune buggies, to fire trucks, to concert bands. “It’s going to be great,” said O’Mahoney. There will also be a street fair on North.
