Daleisha Sweeting credits Lyford Cay Foundation’s FOCUS On Course To College (OCTC) with helping her to focus academically, so-much-so that she will be the first person in her family to attend college. Daleisha, 18, a graduate of Saint John’s College (SJC) will enroll at University of The Bahamas for the fall. “With the help of FOCUS, I have been on the honor roll from primary school until now.

I have maintained a 3.5 grade point average [GPA] throughout junior high and high school,” said Daleisha. “I am now an experienced debater, speech competitor and young reporter for the environment,” She like most of her graduating cohort will be the first in their families to attend college.



Daleisha was one of 15 to graduate from the program on Sunday, June 23, in a ceremony at SuperClubs Breezes Resort. The event marked a culmination of eight years in the unique program designed to prepare students for college and beyond. “I have had a beautiful FOCUS experience.

I have made lifelong friends and created bonds with my FOCUS teachers,” said Daleisha. Dr. Nicola Virgill-Rolle, executive director, Lyford Cay Foundations, said the significance of the graduation could not be overstated.

“These students have completed a commitment that has the potential to positively impact their lives, their families’ lives and ultimately, the country,” said Virgill-Rolle. “Lyford Cay Foundations is proud to be a part of their story and we look forward to seeing them step into their.
