TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A duo in Florida allegedly stole about $20,000 worth of items, including Stanley cups , high-end fragrances, Bogg Bags and cosmetics from various retailers across four counties, according to Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody. The items were stolen from Dick’s Sporting Goods, Academy Sports + Outdoors, Ulta Beauty, CVS and Walmart across Brevard, Broward, Orange and Palm Beach counties, Moody said.
“Organized retail theft carries a real cost for businesses, resulting in even higher prices for consumers,” Moody said in a statement. “Thanks to our law enforcement partners working with our statewide prosecutors, these thieves face felony charges.” Moody said Jimmy Carter Lamar and Donkeria Eunice Burgess allegedly stole the items during a 30-day period.
Both face charges of second-degree felony organized retail theft. Lamar and Burgess would allegedly conceal the items in the store and then leave without paying, Moody said. Burgess was on probation for aggravated child abuse, and Lamar had previously been arrested for fleeing and eluding authorities, Moody said.
Burgess had not yet been taken into custody as of Tuesday afternoon. Stanley cups became a viral sensation earlier this year, with chaos ensuing at retail stores, such as Target, as people flocked to obtain the tumblers . In February, Gov.
Ron DeSantis called on the Florida legislature to increase penalties for retail theft..
