With temperatures rising and the summer holidays fast approaching, Essex folk know they are lucky enough not to have to travel far to find a great beach. And Essex beaches just keep getting better. There's one area in particular where visitors can't help but gush over its "well-cared for and spotless" beach.

But this hasn't always been the case. For those who want a quieter beach but still enough activities to keep the kids occupied, then Thorney Bay in Canvey Island might be a pleasantly surprising choice. The area used to be more of a baron patch of overgrown land but over time has developed into one of the most scenic and tranquil seaside spots on the island, thanks to a voluntary group made up of local islanders who now keep the beach area clean and tidy.

And with 350 miles of beautiful coastline, there is a chance on a sunny day to see some wonderful views of across the Kent coast. Facilities and activities at Thorney Bay Just a short walk away, there are amusements and more cafes.
