Elko and Spring Creek are hosting two fireworks spectaculars on Thursday to celebrate America’s 248th birthday. Elko’s Independence Day celebration and Spring Creek’s Lake of Fire will light up the skies at around 9 p.m.

The Lake of Fire at the Spring Creek Marina caps off the annual Freedom Festival, a daylong roster of events including a parade and games such as mud volleyball, three-on-three basketball and a 5K fun/run. The parade starts at 10 a.m.



at Glenvista Drive and Spring Creek Parkway. In Elko, gates open at 6 p.m.

at the Elko County Fairgrounds. Admission is free with a $5 suggested donation. The event includes a patriotic program with live music, the Pledge of Allegiance, a memorial tribute to community members who have died, recognition of Independence Day committee founding members Cindy Ellison and Charlie Meyers, prayer by Assembly of God Pastor Josh Kraintz, and Candlelight Vigil that is a “guiding light for the soldiers to find their way home.

” VIP seating is still available through the Elko Convention Center and Visitors Authority. VIP ticketholders also receive free food and beverages. Elko and Spring Creek will celebrate the Fourth of July with parades, activities and fireworks on July 4.
