Prof. Sunday Adebisi is the Director of the Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) under whose supervision the Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Business Incubation Certification (EIBIC) is anchored. The EIBIC programme for the 2023/2024 Academic Session commenced for over 11, 000 students.
In this interview with APATA OYENIRAN , he explains the idea behind EIBIC and the mission of the university management. Excerpts: What are the prime objectives of the EIBIC programme for the 2023/2024 Academic Session 100-level students? The EIBIC programme aims to expose university students to the nitty-gritty of business, entrepreneurship and innovation development beyond students’ course of study. It was held under the auspices of the Entrepreneurship and Skills Development Centre (ESDC) of UNILAG.
The seminar also aims to instil entrepreneurial spirit in students and guide them to become business owners/employers. It is a compulsory programme every student must pass. All of them must embrace it and convert their discipline into entrepreneurship ventures.
It’s not an option. It’s not optional and that explains why we are starting with 100-level students. What is the university set to achieve in the long run? So, what the university is saying is that we want to give you capability and ensure that in the next five years when we start graduating students, maybe 70 percent of this 11,000 we are starting with would have created a business or jo.
