When I first got the assignment “Elevate Your Patio”, I had to clarify with ELF editor, Julia, what she meant. I’d spent a couple minutes thinking about literal elevated patios. I was envisioning kind of a pavilion rising up from the lawn on stilts.
Kind of a cool idea! But, of course what she really meant was how to ratchet up the appeal of your outdoor lounging space with this beautiful late spring weather calling us outdoors. If you’ve got a patio, a deck or a covered porch, why not make it as comfortable and visually appealing as you would any other room of the house? I’ve already spent hours outside on my back porch and am slowly pulling it together to where I want it for the summer season. Here’s some way-easy things you can do to make that certain spot comfortable, attractive and serene: Seating: An outdoor patio obviously needs seating.
.. an arrangement that’s cozy just for one person to read a book and enjoy a beverage as well as have enough available spots for a larger group.
If you can manage to have dedicated seating for five people, that’s ideal. A couple more chairs close by to be pulled in is a good idea as well. Arranging the chairs and settees in a conversation circle is much more engaging than them all lined up against a wall.
Do the chairs all need to match? Absolutely not. You might just tie them all together with seat cushions in the same color or at least complement one another. Tables: On my back porch, I’ve got two small bistro sets, .
