KENT COUNTY, MI - What once was a gravel pit is now a place city dwellers use to cool off during the hot summer months near Grand Rapids. Versluis Park is a rare gem in Plainfield Township that offers free and easy access to a beach area, swimming, boating and fishing. The no-entry-fee park is open daily from 8 a.

m.-9:30 p.m.



all summer, until hours change in September. The park’s main feature is its beautiful 50-acre man-made lake parallel to the Grand River. The parking area gives easy access to the beach and designated swim area, picnic areas and two playgrounds.

Versluis Lake is open for kayaking, paddleboarding and non-motorized boating. Property owners around the lake have the ability to use motorized boats. Anglers can hook a variety of fish in Versluis Lake including bluegill, carp, catfish, crappies, gar and northern pike, large mouth, small mouth and rock bass, sunfish and walleye, according to the Plainfield Township Parks and Recreation website. Park activities include two playgrounds, horseshoes, volleyball and a one-mile paved walking trail.
