au , adding he had obtained the requisite council approval. “With a couple of tradies, we went about digging out the garage underneath the house, in the sand. “We just kept on digging, digging, digging, until a rather large sound indicated the house was about to fall into the hole! “So that’s about as dramatic as it as it gets.
“To have your house sort of falling in on itself, that was a pretty big learning curve.” The problem was solved with “a lot of underpinning and a lot of structural support, very quickly”. “A lot of those steel support posts that you can sort of wind up and down, they went in, and thankfully the house didn’t fold in half,” he says, now able to laugh at the once-shocking experience.
