The Omaha, Nebraska native was the last surviving member of the classic Iron Butterfly lineup that performed on their second studio album, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida album (1968).
'It's with a heavy heart & great sadness to announce the passing of my Father Doug Ingle. Dad passed away peacefully [Friday] evening [May 24] in the presence of family,' his son, Doug Ingle Jr., wrote in a Facebook post, as reported by Deadline .
He continued, 'Thank You Dad for being a father, teacher and friend. Cherished loving memories I will carry the rest of my days moving forward in this journey of life. Love you Dad.
' The band formed in San Diego in 1966 with original members: Ingle (vocals and organ), Jack Pinney (drums), Greg Willis (bass) and Danny Weis (guitar). Doug Ingle, Iron Butterfly's original lead singer and organist, passed away on Friday, May 24, at the age of 78; he is pictured performing in new York in 1969 Iron Butterfly would go through a slew of member changes over the years, but most people consider the classic lineup to be Ingle (vocals) Bushy (drums), Lee Dorman (bass) and Erik Brann (guitar). The latter two members joined after the recordin.
