Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan tied the knot in 2007 in a lavish-yet-private wedding ceremony. The gorgeous actress wore a beautiful golden Kanjiveram saree from Neeta Lulla for her big day. While a lot was said and written about Aishwarya's golden saree that she wore for her wedding, not many know that Jaya Bachchan had picked up three saris from an Odia master weaver of Sonepur for then-bride.
Yes, you read that right! According to an old report from The Telegraph, Jaya encountered renowned master weaver Padmashri Chaturbhuj Meher at his exhibition. Impressed by his craftsmanship, she personally selected a few sarees from his collection during the event's inauguration. The same report highlighted that master weaver Padmashri Chaturbhuj Meher had sent three exquisite sarees to Jalsa before Abhishek's wedding.
These sarees, crafted in Orissa's Sonepur, renowned for its 'Pata' sarees, were intended for the bride-to-be, Aishwarya Rai. Subsequently, master weaver Padmashri Chaturbhuj Meher disclosed that when he dispatched the sarees to Jalsa, Jaya Bachchan was absent. Upon her return to Mumbai, she informed him that she had chosen Radhakunj, Mayurkunj, and double ikkat sarees for her daughter-in-law and hoped she would wear them.
Several years later, another weaver from Orissa, Prafulla Meher, disclosed to Odisha Bytes that the esteemed weaver Padmashri Chaturbhuj Meher meticulously crafted a tissue saree for Aishwarya. The actress purportedly adorned a maroon-hued Radhaku.
