DETROIT LAKES — Guests at the Detroit Lakes Holiday Inn may have noticed that it's undergone a bit of a facelift recently ...

about $4 million worth, to be exact. Owners and staff were eager to show off the results of their extensive renovation project during a recent ribbon-cutting event hosted by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce. "We just completed our $4 million renovation project, to include the lobby, meeting rooms and guest rooms," said general manager Doug Anselmin, adding that its 103 guest rooms — half of which offer a great view of Big Detroit Lake — make it the largest hotel in the lakes area.

"The next largest is the Fairfield (Inn) with 69," he said. In addition, the Holiday Inn "is the only full-service hotel in Detroit Lakes," Anselmin said, with both a bar and a restaurant that's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner — including room service — as well as a catering service that's available for both on and off-site gatherings. ADVERTISEMENT Both the restaurant and bar overlook the lake, and share a large patio area that leads directly onto the beach.

"We have almost 800 feet of beautiful, sandy beach," Anselmin said. Music is part of the fun as well, he noted, with live bands and DJs on tap "every Friday and Saturday night," starting at 9 p.m.

The Holiday Inn also offers a marina that has boat slips for rent during the summer months, in addition to pontoon, kayak, paddleboard and bike rentals. "We still have a few slips available," Anselm.
