DAR visits Culpeper’s only colonial church Culpeper Minutemen Daughters of the American Revolution paid a visit, on June 12, to Historic Little Fork Church, the only remaining colonial church in Culpeper. According to a church release, the site is possibly the last Virginia church funded with tax levies authorized by the English Crown as the official Church of England. The colonial church community played a role in the American Revolution through affiliation with the Culpeper Minute Men.
Their “Don’t Tread on Me” flag is considered to be the first battle flag of the American Revolution. Little Fork Church presenter Dan Stockton, at the recent DAR visit, spoke of congregants associated with the Culpeper Minute Men, while Bob Lee detailed early Little Fork Church history and the church restoration in the 1970s, according to the church release. Kathy Ellis spoke on the early church connection to Germanna immigrant families in the region who also played a role in the Revolution and early Little Fork Church community.
