Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has spoken out about her on-screen gran Helen Worth’s upcoming departure from the ITV soap. Helen, who has played Gail Platt (Potter, Tilsley, Hillman, McIntyre, Rodwell) for the last fifty years, announced she is quitting the cobbles in a statement released last month. ‘This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.
I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding’, she said. ‘I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew. ‘The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.
’ How exactly she decides to leave remains to be seen, but it’s bound to be a family affair, with ex-husband Martin (Sean Wilson) reportedly returning to Weatherfield from New Zealand. Speaking with The Sun’s Fabulous magazine , Lucy spoke of Helen as ‘the best kind of role model’ and reflected on her departure. ‘I do feel sad.
When I first joined the show at 19, she was the one who told me to always be nice to everybody, from the make-up girls to the cleaners, because you never know who says what to other people’ she said. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who’s leaving Coronation Street? The l.
