Coronation Street actor Jimmi Harkishin is planning to appeal a ban from a Manchester B&Q store after being accused of stealing a tin of paint – with the star insisting that it was a misunderstanding . The Dev Alahan star, 59, first appeared as the shopkeeper in 1999 and has been a firm favourite on the ITV soap for the last 25 years . It is understood that he was shopping in a branch of the DIY giant at the Manchester Fort Shopping Park in Cheetham Hill last Wednesday when he was approached by staff.

The police were not contacted, though he was handed a letter banning him from visiting the shop again. On the matter, which Jimmi plans to appeal, he said: ‘This was a misunderstanding over a sample pot of paint bought from elsewhere.’ A source told The Sun : ‘He was taken to the back room and held there for 10-15 minutes.



’ ‘The cameras were watching him the whole time and the staff weren’t bothered about who he was. He was treated just like everyone else.’ Twenty years ago, he was arrested and cautioned after swapping a £65 label for a £30 equivalent on a jumper in a branch of department store Fenwick’s in Brent Cross, London.
