Cornwall has clinched the title of the most coveted holiday spot in the UK for this year, dethroning Yorkshire from last year's prime position. A survey involving 2,000 adults highlighted the nation's preferred staycation spots, with Cornwall taking the lead, celebrated for its idyllic beaches, charming villages, and breathtaking landscapes. The Scottish Highlands, Devon, and Yorkshire are also among the top destinations Brits are eager to explore in 2024.
Trailing just behind are North Wales, Cumbria, and the Isle of Wight, all vying for attention as must-see UK locations. Commissioned by for their yearly Staycation Index, the research uncovered that a whopping 77 percent of people plan to take at least one domestic holiday this year. Moreover, the study by the holiday home rental company revealed that the average Brit is set to enjoy three staycations in 2024.
Graham Donoghue, CEO of Sykes Holiday Cottages, said: "Getaways in the UK offer a perfect blend of experience, convenience and affordability, making them an excellent choice for people looking to explore and enjoy the beauty of their own country - whether over week-long holidays or long weekend trips." He added: "We are hoping for another bumper summer for UK travel, with ever-popular destinations such as Cornwall and the Scottish Highlands continuing to lure in visitors." The findings also show that more than four in 10 (42 per cent) are opting for a staycation as their main holiday rather than traveling overseas.
