Shawn Adams was a detective senior constable based in Wollongong, south of Sydney, when he allegedly gave false evidence under oath against de Belin. Police revealed in May that the 48-year-old had been charged with perjury after a long investigation into de Belin's rape trial in Wollongong District Court in 2020.

Adams was originally charged with one count of making a false statement on oath amounting to perjury and a second count of the same offence has now been added. He is also listed as the subject of a detention application by the prosecution when he faces Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday. Adams gave evidence in de Belin's prosecution after investigating allegations that the NRL star and fellow footballer Callan Sinclair had raped a 19-year-old Wollongong woman in 2018 .
