The Humboldt Botanical Garden is presenting its “Summer Concerts at the Garden” series, with one additional concert added this month for good measure. The Scotia Band gets the music rolling with a special concert Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.
at the garden, located at 7707 Tompkins Hill Road, Eureka, on the north end of the College of the Redwoods campus. The Scotia Band — led by conductor Ken Ayoob — was first formed in 1935 and has been performing continuously ever since This weekend, the nonprofit group will play “seasonal favorites and a few surprises,” including “Circus Bee” by Henry Fillmore and music from “The Magnificent Seven.” “We love having Scotia Band back year after year because they have been a Humboldt treasure for almost 90 years,” said Tammy Petitjean, Humboldt Botanical Garden’s manager of Volunteer Services.
“They are also extremely talented and seasoned musicians. As a nonprofit ourselves, it’s beautiful that Scotia Band is also a nonprofit whose strong desire and vision is to serve our community, which is what they have done and continue to do so admirably. .
.. They’re a band everyone looks forward to seeing.
