THE THIRD edition of the Shetland Climate Festival will take place in June, with its programme featuring events, workshops and crafts. The event will take place on Saturday 15 June in Clickimin Leisure Centre in Lerwick between 10am and 4pm, with events held in the Bowls Hall, Bowlers Bar and Loch Bar. Moraig Lyall, chair of the council’s environment and transport committee, said: “I’m pleased to see this event returning for its third year.
It is important that we keep engaging with the challenges and impacts that climate change presents for us all. “The festival highlights the ongoing work being done in Shetland to tackle the changing climate, and provides information on how we can all take steps to have a positive impact on our climate and environment, as well as our own health and financial wellbeing.” As its previous editions, the event will feature a central exhibition showcasing over 20 organisations whose work relates to climate change and its impacts.
Some of the exhibitors include Shetland Amenity Trust, Home Energy Scotland and North Yell Development Council. As an addition for 2024, there will be the first climate craft fair, a series of craft stalls selling items sustainably made in Shetland. Alongside the exhibition, a programme of workshops and presentations has been designed to inform the community and empower people to make climate positive changes in their lives.
Some of this year’s events include a ‘walking wildlife workshop’ around the Click.
