Patna: As the capital city of Bihar gears up for the final phase of the Lok Sabha polls , the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has vowed to celebrate the grand festival of democracy with zero waste in Patna Sahib constituency on June 1. The civic body has installed separate dustbins for dry and wet waste in all the 1,547 polling booths set up in 659 buildings in 75 wards of the constituency. Additionally, the polling booths in the municipal area have been given a facelift.

Along with special cleaning and decoration, free drinking water from Nigam Neer has also been arranged at all the polling booths in the city. PMC commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar said that a special polling booth will be available on the AN College campus. “The selfie point of zero waste election is also made of waste material.

A garbage processing unit has also been installed on the college campus. Pink toilets operated by the women of ‘Swachhangini’ have also been arranged. There will also be a provision of Nigam Neer water on the college campus”, he added.

Parashar said that during elections, lakhs of people step out of their homes to exercise their franchise. “This initiative of the corporation will not only enhance the beauty of the city on voting day, but it will also help the people to develop the habit of collecting garbage separately.
