Joe Cole has challenged Enzo Maresca to make Chelsea Kings of London again. The Italian signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge this week after leading Leicester City to promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt. Maresca takes over from Mauricio Pochettino , who lasted less than 12 months in the hotseat, after owner Todd Boehly called for more change at the top.

Chelsea scraped into the European spots last term after a late rally that saw them clock up five-straight wins, but they still ended up 26 points behind Arsenal , who also thrashed them 5-0 at the Emirates back in April. The Blues haven’t finished as the top London club in the past two seasons, and Stamford Bridge favourite Cole has urged the new boss to help them reclaim the capital from their rivals. Cole told Mirror Football : “Chelsea finished the season very well - now it’s crucial they take back London.

I think that’s important. Tottenham and Arsenal have really made strides. It’s a beautiful football city and we have some of the best sides in the world .

Chelsea haven’t been on top of that pile of a very long time, so that’s the first thing they need to do.” Pochettino became the third permanent manager in less than two years to leave the west London club after Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter’s early exits. Chelsea have given Maresca, 44, a long-term deal, and Cole has pleaded with the club’s hierarchy to stick with their man through thick and thin to bring back stabil.
