The Spaniard moved into the second round with a tougher-than-expected defeat of dreadlocked blonde Estonian qualifier Mark Lajal by warming up on the golf course. The reigning champ calmed his nerves the day before the opening match by swinging a few clubs and it worked as he held his nerve against a tricky opponent. Alcaraz tried the trick 12 months ago - playing at Royal Wimbledon - and it worked a treat as he overcame Novak Djokovic in the final.
