New Delhi: The curtains have closed on the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, echoing the powerful presence of Indian women on the global cinematic stage.

This year, the Cannes Film Festival was a landmark event for India. Indian stories, celebrities, filmmakers, influencers, and fashion enthusiasts not only dazzled on the red carpet but also took home well-deserved recognitions and awards. Cannes 2024 was not just about celebrating films; it was also a forum for addressing pressing social issues, which was evident in the winner list.

The festival’s panels covered topics such as diversity, gender equality, and environmental sustainability in the film industry. The highlight of the festival was filmmaker Payal Kapadia who created history as the first Indian woman to have won the prestigious Grand Prix, the second-highest prize after the Palme d’Or. Kapadia’s film, ‘All We Imagine As Light,’ is a drama centred on two Malayali nurses navigating life, love, and sisterhood in a beautifully shot Mumbai.
