TOWNSEND — In definition, a geek is a person who is knowledgeable about and obsessively interested in a particular subject. If this describes you, and you love plants, then Molly Benevides has a group for you – Plant Geeks – an informal monthly meet-up where you can talk about all things plants. “I wanted to put together something where folks can meet-up to talk about houseplants and gardening – all things to do with plants – and do an activity,” said Benevides, who is a resident of Fitchburg and the assistant director at the Townsend Public Library, where the group will meet monthly.
“It’s just a group for people who like plants.” The Fitchburg resident said that the name “Pant Geeks” was created by way of a chance encounter. “The name came from a patron who I was chatting with after a garden talk we had last fall.
He said, ‘The plant geeks always stay late talking!’ I thought it was the perfect name for a group where people can ‘geek out’ about their passion for plants!” Benevides is excited to announce the next meeting which will be held from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, in Meeting Hall B, in the Townsend Public Library, 12 Dudley Road, which will feature her first Plant Swap.
“All you have to do is bring your healthy extra seedlings, houseplant cuttings, leftover seeds, or any other plants you would like to swap,” she said. “Swapping will be informal, if you don’t have anything to bring you will still go home with som.
