Article content Sometimes it feels like the list of Cadillac concept cars we wish the company would have built is almost as long as the list of the cars we’re glad the company did build. Many modern prototypes wearing the marque’s signature sharp creases and imposing proportions immediately spring to mind, like the stunning Elmiraj, the beautiful Ciel convertible, and of course the over-the-top Sixteen of two decades ago, but don’t forget the other, older could-have-been projects that would have really made Caddy the “Standard of the World” once again, like the V12 powerplant it engineered, then abandoned, back in the ’60s. Anyway, there’s a new example to add to the “why-didn’t-Cadillac-build-this” side of the leger, and it’s an unnamed coupe from an unspecified number of years ago that the company just rolled out for the first time mid-June, at the Eyes on Design concours d’elegance.

And I mean—just look at this thing. Cynics would say what GM Design calls simply an “expressive coupe” internal design study is not much more than a Cadillac-styled Chevrolet Camaro , but is that really such a bad thing in and of itself? This bold two-door absolutely nails the look via several details like the large, fine-mesh grille and vaguely fin-like taillamps, but we like the shape of the window openings most of all. Learn more about the cars GM Design loosed a series of drawings of the thing on Instagram , as part of its “From the Vault” series of sketche.
