The vote was 3-1 in favor of the increase with Alderman Ryan McClure voting in opposition. The increase will take place in July of 2024. In the public comment portion of the meeting, Jim Schmidt, a resident of the apartments next to city hall complained of parking and walking problems dealing with police cars blocking walkways.
Chief of Police Doug Calvert said the two vehicles in question were surplus vehicles and would be promptly moved. Chamber of Commerce President, Matt Crabtree, gave a glowing report on the Spring Fling weekend activities held in downtown Bonne Terre the previous weekend. “We had a tremendous weekend here in Bonne Terre.
We had the Spring Fling that’s put on by the Downtown Association. We had 19 that competed in the barbecue event. They came from Arkansas, Kansas, and Memphis, so our town got a lot of influx during that.
The city support for that event was tremendous!” He continued, “The fire, the police, the parks, sanitation, I mean, came around. It was just unbelievable. It made it so easy for everything to happen.
We also had a Kids Fishing Derby, on Saturday. The lake looks beautiful.” As far as future events, Crabtree mentioned the Chamber Golf Classic that has already sold out of teams.
