Tributes are flowing following the death of beloved actress at the age of 53 after a nine-year battle with breast cancer. The and star’s publicist Leslie Sloane shared the news in a statement to on Sunday night (Australian time). “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty.
On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” Leslie told the publication. “The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.
” Shannen was first diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and underwent eight rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, as well as a single mastectomy before entering remission in 2017. Sadly, she announced in February 2020 that her cancer had returned the previous year and she was now stage four. The actress revealed in June 2023 that her terminal breast cancer had spread to her brain and , telling her followers that she was “trying to be brave” but felt “petrified”.
Shannen had a series of small roles in the TV series and films and before landing her breakout role as Brenda Walsh in . She left the show at the end of season four in 1994 and returned to TV in 1998 as Prue Halliwell in , a role she held until her departure in 2001 following three seasons. Shannen later produced and starred in her own reality show, , and reprised her role as Brenda Walsh in the spi.
