Gardeners' World presenter Monty Don has moved viewers to tears after posting a touching throwback snap online. The 68-year-old veteran gardener has amassed thousands of horticultural enthusiasts online with his plant care tips and endearing bonds he shares with his dogs on the BBC show. Tragically, Monty's Labrador, Nell, died last year, a loss that came three years after fans mourned the death of Nigel, his Golden Retriever, another of the programme's furry favourites.
Each time, Monty honoured their memory with heartfelt on-air tributes and continues to keep viewers updated about his remaining canine companions, Ned and Patti. This week, Monty took to social media to post an old photograph that captured a younger Nell and Patti nestled comfortably in his arms, a scene which showcased a beaming Monty looking fondly at the pair. Writing alongside the image, the gardening guru said: "Found this picture taken 4 years ago of Nell and Patti (and me)", eliciting a wave of emotional reactions from his followers, particularly because it included the much-missed Nell.
One follower commented: "Awww beautiful Nell, what a lovely photo," while another wrote: "They love their Dad. Dear Nell, always remembered." "Aawww made me cry.
Sending you a hug Monty for all your fur babies," expressed another fan, clearly touched by the heartwarming recollection. "How lucky we all are to have shared our lives with beautiful furry family members, thank you for sharing yours with us," one person comm.
