The BBC were forced into a late change of schedule after Carlos Alcaraz's speedy win over Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final. Alcaraz ripped through Djokovic with astonishing speed in two hours and 27 minutes in the Wimbledon final, winning in straight sets to defend his SW19 crown with a 6-2 6-2 7-6 (7-4) victory. It was so fast that even the BBC underestimated the 21-year-old and were forced into a change of schedule with the match being over so quickly.
With the final over and the post-match coverage and interviews only taking up so much time, an emergency episode of Countryfile was put on at 5:20pm. The BBC planned for a heavy day of sports with Wimbledon's coverage set to end at 6:20pm with the news to follow. Then at 6:30pm, Euro 2024 coverage was set to begin, where England face Spain, a match you can also listen to live on talkSPORT.
But Alcaraz's quick win saw an episode of Countryfile lodged in the middle - because why not. The Spaniard became the third-youngest player to win the men’s singles title at Wimbledon in back-to-back editions. Boris Becker (18 years, 227 days, 1985-86) and Bjorn Borg (21 years, 26 days, 1976-77) are the only two players younger than Alcaraz to defend their Wimbledon crowns in the Open era.
Alcaraz said: "Honestly, it is a dream for me winning this trophy. "I did an interview when I was 11 and I said my dream is to win Wimbledon. I want it to keep going.
"It is a great feeling to play on this beautiful court and lift this amazing trop.
