Charlie Stayt and wife Annie could be facing bankruptcy, according to reports. HMRC served the company owned by the BBC Breakfast presenter and broadcaster Annie a petition threatening bankruptcy. The couple were given the papers from the government agency on Monday, claims The Sun .
Their TV and broadcasting firm Stayt Limited filed accounts in December for the year ending March 2023, which showed they were £6,409 in the red. The couple, who have two children Pheobe and Jake, and live in a four-bedroom home located in Twickenham, London, which is said to be worth £2.3million after they purchased for £800,000 in 2002, are listed as directors.
The company’s nature of business is television programming and broadcasting activities. It also lists Central London accountants and tax consultants, Hogbens Dunphy Secretaries, alongside both Annie, 65, and Charlie, 61. Charlie joined BBC Breakfast in 2006, which he now hosts with Naga Munchetty, 49.
The pair present the programme Thursday to Saturday from Salford, Manchester. He took over the post after Dan Walker left the show in 2022 to join Channel 5 News. Susanna Reid has also previously worked on the daily show but now fronts ITV’s Good Morning Britain.
Previously Charlie worked on Five News, where he worked his way up from reporter to presenting live debates and prime-time bulletins. He spent a decade at ITN, where he anchored coverage of the Millennium celebrations and the events of 9/11. He also reported for Sky News.
