PHILADELPHIA >> For members of the Chester County Carpenter Cup team, it was about as good as you could possibly feel after a loss. Made up primarily of players from high schools in the Pioneer Athletic Conference and Ches-Mont League (as well as Cole White from the Hill School), these typical rivals came together for the 38th running of the Carpenter Cup, an All-Star showcase each June featuring more than 400 players and 16 teams across the tri-state area. Not only does it allow opponents from the high school season to become teammates, but the tournament also allows for players on the same high school teams to play together one final time before scattering for the summer.
So while Chester County lost 9-6 on Thursday morning at FDR Park in South Philadelphia to defending champion Jersey Shore, the players weren’t too upset about how things went. “It was cool,” said Methacton junior Tommy Kratz, who went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and stolen base. “During the high school season a lot of these guys are our rivals, so to come together as teammates was really fun.
Just to be in the game with that type of team from New Jersey, I thought we did a good job.
