A rising sophomore at Pittsburgh and a native of New Jersey, Sebastian Pisacreta found himself in unfamiliar territory in Northeast Tennessee for the summer. However, the young catcher has acclimated to Kingsport without much issue. The young backstop was considered one of the top high school prospects in New Jersey among his graduating class.

But Pisacreta said his college recruitment took a while to get off the ground. “It was pretty slow, because of COVID and everything like that,” Pisacreta said. “So not many schools reached out, there wasn’t a lot of activity that way.



But then, Pitt saw me play in Junior National, down in Georgia. They liked what they saw and ended up offering me.” This past spring, the current Axmen backstop got to play in 19 games in his freshman season, where he hit .

237 with two homers and nine RBIs for the Panthers. Pisacreta said while it would have been nice to immediately come in and be the everyday guy, he said that he still believes Pitt is the place for him. A big reason for that is his catching coach.

“I feel like I have the best catching coach in the country in Devin Mesoraco,” Pisacreta said. “He was a big-leaguer, he was an All-Star, you name it. I’m working with the best.

” After a solid spring in the Steel City, the Panthers catcher has played well to start his Appy League season. He has appeared in 10 games, batting .242 and driving in seven runs.

But, Pisacreta did not originally intend on spending the summer in Kin.
