Editor’s Note: Chef Jami Dare, the executive chef at Wartburg College, will be sharing some ideas with our readers in a monthly column for Waverly Newspapers. Are you looking for a fun and easy way to impress your friends at your next gathering? Look no further than the charcuterie board! As the Executive Chef of Wartburg College, I can attest that charcuterie boards are not only delicious but also incredibly easy to put together. My general rule of thumb when creating a charcuterie board is very feng shui: three meats, three cheeses and three specialty items.

For larger boards, I always stick to odd numbers for a more visually appealing display. I also like to vary the height of the items on the board for added interest. Some items, like olives, lend themselves well to being placed in small bowls to add depth and dimension to the board.

One thing that sets my charcuterie boards apart is my willingness to get creative with shapes. I don’t feel constrained by the idea that everything has to be in a straight line. I like to play around with the layout of the items on the board to create a visually appealing and unique display.

Another tip for creating a standout charcuterie board is to focus on creating a board full of colors and textures. By including a variety of beautiful items, you add visual interest to the board and ensure that there is something for everyone to enjoy. One of the best things about charcuterie boards is that they can be completely customized to suit yo.
