NEWFANE — Through the month of June, Art Among Friends presents its second show at the Crowell Gallery in Newfane. These local artists — Connie Evans, Alice Freeman, Kathy Greve, Laurie Klenkel, Louise Zak and Lynn Zimmerman — describe their group as “a tapestry of different personalities, styles, and skills.” They note that: “Our shared experience is a love of painting, the magical mingling of color to create beauty through light and shadow, texture and form.

” Most pieces on display are watercolors, although several are in oil, gouache or a combination of watercolor and ink. “Working within a group gives extra energy to our process and supports our artistic growth,” they say. This year’s show includes more than 40 pieces, ranging from abstract to intensely realistic.

Among these are Lynn Zimmerman’s "Spring Swans," selected for the juried Spring Show of the Vermont Watercolor Society; Louise Zak’s series "Surprising Brattleboro," in which world landmarks make cameo appearances; Laurie Klenkel’s electric "Dancing Pears;" Connie Evans’ complex "Mindscapes I and II;" Kathy Greve’s atmospheric "Slow Season;" and Alice Freeman’s vibrant "Sushi Special." A reception will be held at the gallery from 1 to 3 p.m.

June 8. Many of the original pieces will be for sale. An array of prints and cards will also be available for purchase at the reception or on request at ArtAmongFriends6@gmail.
