Works of art is a serene setting will be on display this weekend at Memorial Park in Royal Oak. The free Royal Oak Outdoor Art Fair, which returns for its54th year, takes place in the grassy acreage of the park where there are plenty of tall trees. Open from 10 a.

Saturday, July 6 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.

m. Sunday, July 7, this year’s art fair features live music as well as dozens of art displays participating in a juried show. The art fair is known for drawing local, regional and nationally recognized artists who work in a variety of forms and mediums.

Many of the artists are juried in fine arts and specialize in ceramics, collage, drawing, jewelry, wood, fiber, metals, painting – including acrylics, oil, watercolor; pastels – photography, sculpture and other categories. The nonprofit Royal Oak Arts Council started the art fair over a half-century ago to heighten the profile of the art community, according to its website at royaloakarts.com.

The council’s chief aim is to support local art organizations and offer scholarships to Royal Oak students. It bills the Royal Oak Outdoor Art Fair as a nationally recognized juried event that “draws fine artists from across the country to our beautiful shaded, tree-lined Memorial Park for a weekend of free family fun and entertainment.” The ROAC also works with the Royal Oak Public Library to feature local artists’ work there throughout the year in a showcase inside the library’s south entrance.
