AMERICANS are seeking help from their fathers when it comes to homeowning, according to a recent survey. Over half of Americans with a dad or father figure in their life have sought their handiwork and home advice. Buying real estate in today's market may feel rough, especially for new homeowners.

And the anxiety doesn't stop after finding the right property. From repairs, maintenance, new bills, and other homeownership-specific tasks, responsibilities can feel all-too consuming for first-time buyers. But it doesn't have to feel impossible when you insert Dad.



A survey by realtor.com found that leaning on your dad or father figure for help with homebuying and other home-related tasks is more the norm than the exception, with 51% of Americans turning to their dads for advice on buying a home. That trend fairs even higher, at 56%, for those who live within a couple of hours of their father.

When asked what advice children sought from their dads, it was found new homeowners especially needed guidance on taking care of their homes. This includes everything from landscaping to home improvement projects, to financial advice. Seeking the counseling of a confidant doesn't stop there though.

Over 40% of Americans with fathers say they've had their dad physically help with moving and/or home repairs. Such is the case for Nashville -based father-daughter Isaac and Krystalle Bratkovich. In the spring of 2022, Krystalle came to her father with the news that she wanted to buy her first hom.
