AMAZON Freevee has axed one of its original sitcoms after one season. Coming-of-age comedy Primo won’t return for a Season 2, creator Shea Serrano revealed on Tuesday while announcing the cancellation. Primo followed a teen named Rafa (Ignacio Diaz-Silverio) as he navigated a stressful high school life and a chaotic home life with his single mom and five uncles.

Christina Vidal starred as his mom Drea, while the uncles were portrayed by Carlos Santos, Henri Esteve, Johnny Rey Diaz, Jonathan Medina, and Efraín Villa. All eight episodes of Primo’s first (and now final) season were released on Amazon Freevee on May 19, 2023. “A short but beautiful run — sadly we’re not gonna be making any more episodes of PRIMO,” Shea revealed on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.

“I will always be indebted to everyone who worked on the show to make it so great and I will always be thankful to everyone who watched and championed it,” he added. “Thank you for real — long live PRIMO,” Shea concluded. Primo’s producers, Universal Television, are reportedly searching for a new home for the series, sources told The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans immediately shared their anger over the cancellation after Shea’s announcement. “This 100 percent deserved a second season,” one upset X user wrote. “Nooooooooo,” a second fan replied.

“You made something incredible, gonna have to re-watch immediately.” “The streaming business is stupid and cruel,” a third angry fan insiste.
