STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — It was an evening filled with energy, laughter, engaging conversations and inspiring success stories — everything that would have brought a smile to the face of Allan Weissglass.

The Allan Weissglass Distinguished Leadership Award Gala at the Joan and Alan Bernikow JCC bears the name of the inimitable community leader, who died in 2019. Weissglass enjoyed a special relationship with the borough and its countless not-for-profit and cultural institutions.



A successful businessman, husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend, he presided over the Weissglass family business holdings, also applying his skills as a businessman to a legion of Island civic and cultural organizations. The Allan Weissglass Distinguished Leadership Award is presented to individuals who demonstrate dedication to improving the JCC by a lifelong commitment to enriching and strengthening the community, and who serve as agents for social change and human betterment.
