A total of five Kent MPs have so far confirmed that they will not be standing at the next general election after Rishi Sunak set the date of July 4. Voters will head to the polls on this date to select 18 MPs to represent the county. So far, more than 120 MPs from around the country have declared they will not be seeking re-election this time around.

Of these, over 80 of them were elected to Parliament as Conservative MPs. This exit list includes the likes of Michael Gove, former prime minister Theresa May, Matt Hancock, Dominic Raab, Nadhim Zahawi, John Redwood and Ben Wallace. Here in Kent, Tunbridge Wells MP Greg Clark has confirmed that he will not be standing at the General Election.



Mr Clark said: “I am grateful and proud to have been able to speak and fight for the people of this beautiful and famous place. Standing is a five year commitment and it’s time to pass the baton on.” He joins the likes of Tracey Crouch, Natalie Elphicke, Gordon Henderson, and Craig Mackinlay who have also confirmed they are standing down.

Earlier this month, Conservative MP for Dover and Deal Natalie Elphicke announced that she had . Confirming that she would not be seeking re-election, Ms Elphicke said: “We’ve made real progress together - more investment into our area, fighting for better hospital services, for stronger borders and more jobs and money. It’s been such a privilege to serve the people of Dover & Deal over the last four and a half years.

Thank you.” This election.
