A video of the Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc, Adaora Umeorji, formally resuming at her new post at the company’s head office in Lagos, went viral during the week and it warmed the hearts of many Nigerians. Umeoji resumed on June 1, 2024, making her the first female GMD and CEO of the company in its 34-year history. She took over from the former GMD, Ebenezer Onyeagwu, whose time in office expired on May 31.
In the video, which was posted on the bank’s official social media page, Umeorji’s black jeep could be seen arriving at the bank’s premises, after which she stepped out, smartly and elegantly dressed in a black suit, red shirt, and black platform heels. As Umeorji entered the office complex, she was full of smiles, as she exhanged handshakes with members of staff, who were excited to welcome her. She also posed for pictures with some of her colleagues, and went round strategic places in the office.
Umeorji’s appointment had been announced in a statement by Zenith Bank to the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. The fair-skinned beauty, known to often wear outfits in the bank’s bright red colour, actually started her career as a youth corps member in the organisation, and rose through the ranks due to her commitment and doggedness. She brings nearly 30 years of banking experience to the post, with 26 of those years spent at Zenith Bank, where she had served as the Deputy Managing Director since October 28, .
