New Providence piano trio violinist Cameron Pratt, cellist Romel Shearer and pianist Dr. Paul Jones; The Cathedral Players, the 35-voice University of The Bahamas Concert Choir and the Highgrove Singers will perform a concert of psalms and hymns at historic Christ Church Cathedral. Entitled “I Was Glad,” the concert is a part of the inaugural Frederick W.

Fleischer Memorial Concert Series. “’I Was Glad’ is taken from Psalm 122 and is upon this basis that we will go into the house of the Lord to present choral, instrumental and organ music based around selected psalms and hymns of our Christian tradition, said Adrian Archer, director of music at the cathedral and artistic director of the concert series. He said he is excited to present the music.

“The psalms and hymns give us such diversity in textual style from which to choose. We have the grandeur and majesty of the arrangement of Parry’s “I Was Glad” which, by the way, has been sung at the coronation of every British Sovereign since the 17th century, to the beauty of John Rutter’s Psalm 23 (The Lord is my Shepherd); the sadness of hopefulness of Psalm 3, rhythms of Psalm 100 and variations on the hymn tune Trentham (Breathe On Me Breath Of God). It’s going to be an exciting evening.

” The concert, the second in the series is scheduled for Sunday, May 26 at 7 p.m. The third concert will be the presentation of the Requiem by French composer Maurice Duruflé in October.
