A month-long collaborative exhibit comes to a close on Sunday as 22 artists are highlighted with “Brushstrokes for Earth Solano Water Stories.” The powerful exhibit features a mix of art styles, including digital pieces, poems, and one piece welded together with materials from as far back as 2017. Each of the pieces aims to incorporate critical environmental issues.

Vallejo poet laureate Jacalyn Eyvonne says each piece was about “addressing something with the environment and pollution.” “I’m hoping people leave this exhibit knowing the importance of caring about our planet,” Eyvonne said. “There are so many little things we can do to make it better, especially if we work together.



My poem talks about the skies and the toxins in it.” “Shall We Wear a Mask Today” asks, “Shall we wear a mask today, and stand in unity to preserve earth’s beauty or turn a blind eye, contend not to care while we continue to choke on polluted air.” Alicia Gomez creating a piece constructed by old recycled parts gathered around her home in Vallejo.

The piece — “Time is ticking away Tick Tock Tick Tock” — had a few layers that showed what is happening at the surface of our bodies of water and land, as well as what’s happening below the surface. “This piece of expression deals with the conservation of water,” Gomez said. “We have too much contamination with the fabrics of nuclear problems.
