The revitalization and growth of Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo’s downtowns was the focus of the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce’s latest Eggs and Issues event, held Tuesday, July 9. Urban challenges, such as chronic homelessness and safety, were also part of the "Downtowns in Focus" discussion at the Courtyard by Marriott in Moorhead. Panelists Rocky Schneider, executive director of Fargo’s Downtown Community Partnership; Derrick LaPoint, president and CEO of Downtown Moorhead Inc.

; and Casey Sanders-Berglund, economic development manager for West Fargo; touted the strides their downtowns are making. Two large developments have dominated news for downtown Fargo: The completion of the $100 million Bell Bank Tower project and the start of work on the $60 million Avery, featuring nearly 200 apartments and a 400-seat theater for Fargo-Moorhead Community Theatre. Fargo police officers Zach Robinson, Andrew Dotas, Tyler Hawes and Jake Wallin were responding to a routine crash at 25th Street and Ninth Avenue South when Fargo resident Mohamad Barakat opened fire from within his vehicle, which was parked in a lot near the crash. Koswick was shot and injured by Barakat alongside Dotas and Hawes. Wallin was killed.
