Astrology names inspired by the stars are the perfect choice for a baby who is your galaxy. When picking an astrology baby name, there's much to consider. There's the baby's sun sign, of course, but don't forget the ruling planets.

Is he or she a fire, earth, water, or air sign? Maressa Brown, an astrologer and author of the book “ ,” shares her insight with TODAY.com about what to consider when using astrology to help pick a baby name. Her latest book, “ ,” explains how to thrive during retrogrades.



“Some parents wait until the baby is born to have an actual birth chart before choosing a name,” Brown shares. A birth chart will have the most specific information on your baby’s astrology. When considering a baby's sun sign and how that may affect the chosen name, parents may have to look at two signs.

Brown gave the example of a baby with an approximate due date range that would mean the baby is a Libra or a Scorpio. “They have different dispositions,” she says, and advises parents to consider names for both signs. “Think about the vibe of a sign,” Brown suggests.

“Get a sense of that sun season.” For example: Gemini season is buzzy and frenetic, she says, while the Cancer season that follows is family-oriented and emotionally intelligent. Speaking of family, Brown says parents can look to ancestors’ birth charts to get a sense of what their baby may share in common with their relatives.
